Take a Step Up

## Things from me (and someone else) to THINK about

“It’s not what happens to you that matters most, but what happens in you. What happens in you will ultimately determine what happens through you.”

“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.” – Stephen Covey

## A story to BE moved by

Once upon a time, a donkey fell into a well. The farmer who owned the donkey tried to get him out, but he couldn’t do it on his own. He thought about burying the donkey in the well and starting over, but he knew that would be a waste of a good donkey.

So the farmer called his neighbors to help him rescue the donkey. The neighbors gathered and looked at the well. They realized it would be an impossible task to get the donkey out. And even though he was still alive, they decided to bury him in the hole.

They started shoveling dirt into the well. As the dirt hit the donkey’s back, he shook it off and took a step up. More dirt was thrown in, and the donkey shook it off and took another step up. This continued until the donkey was able to step out of the well.

The donkey could have given up and accepted his fate. But he didn’t. Instead, he shook off the dirt and used it to his advantage.
